devotions for young women

beloved @cherryblossommj

I will admit that one thing I look forward to as the new year turns around is not a diet plan or resolutions but starting a new planner and devotional. For the last several weeks, my oldest daughter and I have been blessed with the opportunity to spend time dwelling within the pages of this gorgeous hand-sized hardcover with satin ribbon devotional. These 371 pages in Beloved: 365 Devotions for Young Women contain 365 devotionals to take you through the year from Zondervan.

At first, AppleBlossom found herself set on not starting until the new year, but I convinced her that wouldn’t go over very well as far as writing a review was concerned. She asked where I was within my personal readings and I told her that I had been skimming and skipping around a bit to get a better idea of what to tell people who wanted to know what the book was like. Her response was along that lines of, “…but what if you miss something important?!” She was and is eager to jump in but wanted to make sure she gave it its due.

Beloved: 365 Devotions for Young Women is a topical devotional that uses the inspiring stories of girls and women in the Bible—such as Ruth, Esther, Mary, and Abigail—to encourage faith and confidence as well as provide insight into topics like relationships, inner beauty, and chasing your dreams.

Each day features an easy-to-read, relevant devotion paired with a scripture verse about a biblical girl or woman, as well as journaling space to help readers reflect on the day’s message. With honest, poignant, and sometimes humorous text, every page will speak to the pressures and changes girls face, giving them real-world applications to find God in their hearts and in their lives. Perfect for everyday use, Beloved will resonate with girls searching for truth and guidance. Gift givers will love this highly designed book featuring a beautiful, foiled cover, two-color interior pages, and a ribbon marker.

While the targeted age audience for these devotions for young women is 13-18 years old, my daughter (9.5 and a very advanced reader) is able to enjoy the few devotionals she is reading through. As I am, and I’m a decade and some beyond that target as well. This little book has so much to offer in its beautiful cover and durable pages to help any woman read through topical devotions and truly find their identity as a beloved woman of Christ.

A digital preview is available on the book-specific website as linked in the first paragraph if you would like to peruse the first several devotions. In the preview, one can see the beautiful illustrations that line the borders of each page and see the white space available with lines below perfect for doodling or journaling along as you journey through the inspiration left to us by women of the Bible from Esther, Ruth, Naomi, Mary, Leah, Rachel, Abigail, Sarah and more. Yet the devotions are not only on the females as there is plenty of material from the men in their lives as well.

Trust in God’s plan for you

I have found that the small hand-size of this devotional is perfect for sitting and reading, really soaking up all the words. If I were not sharing with my daughter I am quite certain I would be journaling all over it. As it stands, we are using it for inspiration to carry over into our journaling Bibles to highlight a particular passage or feminine character within the scriptures. The color tones and fonts chosen in the design are a delight to the eye and I have truly been enjoying my time within these pages thus far. There is something about a Zondervan devotional that I always trust and it remains to be true with this one as well. The author, Lindsay A. Franklin is new to me, but I enjoy her wit and truth even when it is uncomfortable or challenging.

Beloved is a precious treasure of a book and would make an excellent choice for a Christmas present for the young female in your life, even if young in your spirit and not in age. I’m well pleased with this beautiful book.
